Psychic perception is usually described through four 'clair' senses, and knowing them helps you pick a reader whose style fits you.
Clairvoyance (clear seeing): impressions arrive as imagery — scenes, symbols, colors. In a reading this sounds like: 'I keep seeing a doorway with light behind it.'
Clairaudience (clear hearing): words, names or sounds. A clairaudient reader may pass on a phrase exactly as it 'arrived', even when it means nothing to them.
Clairsentience (clear feeling): perceiving emotion or physical sensation as one's own; many empaths work this way. 'When I tune in to him, my chest tightens' is clairsentience at work.
Claircognizance (clear knowing): complete knowing without imagery, sound or feeling. Often the hardest for readers to explain, because there is nothing to point to; the knowing is simply there.
